Former US national security adviser John Bolton has refused to come to interview investigators who are conducting an investigation that could lead to President Donald Trump’s accountability.

Bolton’s lawyer, Charles Cooper, said his client had not received a summons; in previous statements, Cooper had confirmed that Bolton would not appear without him.

An official in the House Intelligence Committee said the committee had no interest in engaging in a protracted court battle over Bolton’s subpoena.

She said that although Bolton did not attend, Jennifer Williams, an aide to US Vice President Mike Pence, came to the Capitol to talk to the interrogators.

Williams, Pence’s European and Russian adviser, testified in closed session to members of the House Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight Committees after receiving a subpoena.

Williams, one of many White House aides, who were listening to the phone call between Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelinsky.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted in favor of a resolution that would officially allow Trump’s removal proceedings, by public hearings, rather than in closed sessions.

It is worth mentioning that John Robert Bolton is an American attorney, political commentator, Republican consultant, a former diplomat and national security advisor. Bolton was the United States Ambassador to the United Nations from August 2005 to December 2006 as a recess appointee by President George W. Bush.
