The Russian space air force has decided to operate helicopters daily as part of its patrols in the border area between Syria and Turkey under the Russian-Turkish Sochi memorandum on northeastern Syria.
“We have carried out missions to conduct air patrols in the northern provinces of Syria,” Russian Air Force pilot Dmitry Ivanov told reporters. “The flights will be carried out daily on all axes and will be carried out by helicopter pairs at a height of 50 to 60 meters above the ground.”
The pilot explained that the helicopters will accompany the columns of the Russian military police and will be responsible for securing patrolling areas.
The head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, Major-General Yuri Borenkov, announced on Thursday evening that the Russian army’s aircraft flew on November 7 the first air patrol in northeast Syria, where his helicopters flew over the route of the airport of Quiris – Ain Issa – Raqqa – Assad Lake – Quiris Airport.
It is worth mentioning that the Russian Air Force is a branch of the Russian Aerospace Forces, the latter being formed on 1 August 2015 with the merger of the Russian Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces.
