Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu criticized the United States for its stance on Syria’s oil fields.
“They admit and openly say they are there because of the oil fields,” he said.
“Nobody has the right to Syrian resources,” he said. “They came here, cutting thousands of kilometers and saying, ‘We are going to evaluate the oil fields in this country … This is against international law.’
The Anatolia news agency said earlier that the US military presence in Syria is still continuing despite the announcement of US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw his soldiers, adding that only Washington has changed the map of the deployment of its troops there.
According to the Pentagon, the United States does not benefit from the revenues of oil and gas fields under its control in northern Syria, and that the money goes to the “Democratic Forces of Syria,” the Kurdish majority.
It is worth mentioning that the 2019 Turkish offensive into north-eastern Syria, code-named by Turkey as Operation Peace Spring, is an ongoing cross-border military operation conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces and the Syrian National Army against the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Arab Army in northeastern Syria.
