The Dubai government media office confirmed on Sunday that water leaked to a number of shops and facilities in the “Dubai Mall” due to heavy rains.
A spokesman for Emaar said the Dubai Mall was affected by the rains, which led to the leakage of water to “limited areas”, noting that efforts were underway to stop all leaks.
The spokesman stressed that the mall is still open to the public and its staff are on the ground to ensure that visitors are not affected.
Activists on social media posted videos showing large water leaks into the Dubai Mall through its roof.
In the meantime, the UAE authorities warned its citizens of “surprises” due to bad weather conditions, and the Ministry of Interior called on drivers to be vigilant in view of the strong winds and rain in various parts of the country.
An official source at Dubai International Airports Corporation (DMI) confirmed that some flights are expected to be amended Sunday afternoon due to unstable weather conditions.
The “weather surprises” resulted in the cessation of Al Ain Club activities, and the school day was disrupted in schools in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah amid warnings to fishermen and all citizens and residents against going to the sea, which it said would remain between turbulent to very turbulent.
