India has fired an Agni-2 ballistic missile capable of carrying
warheads of various types, including a nuclear warhead, the Indian
Strategic Forces Command said Saturday.
The missile fired from a mobile platform in a military field on the island of Abdul Kalam off the eastern Indian state of Odisha. The missile hit a training target 2,000 kilometers from the field in the Bay of Bengal, the command said.
Furthermore, the Indian military stresses that this is the first test launch of the missile of this type carried out in the evening (19:32 local time), and was monitored from two ships located in the area of combat head fall in the waters of the Bay of Bengal.

Since April 2012, India has continued successful test launches of the Agni-5, which has a range of 5.5,000 km. The missile is expected to enter service in the national strategic forces in the near future.
